URGENT: Riverside County Courts will be requesting Additional 60 Days for Jury Trial

URGENT LAST DAY ISSUE
The Riverside County Superior Court intends on requesting an additional 60 days of time on all criminal cases whose NATURAL last day falls between June 16 and July 31 from the California Judicial Council.

Judge Molloy contacted me at about 3:20 PM today to inform me of the court’s intention to do so.  One of the reasons they were informing us ahead of time is because the defense bar does have the ability to object through the Judicial Council.  Because it would be inappropriate for the RCCDBA to take a uniform position on behalf of the 133 members, it’s critical that anyone who wants to object do so individually through the Judicial Council.

The Public Defender Office’s position will be on this issue is unknown, but certainly every lawyer who takes issue with this request should contact the Judicial Council to voice your opposition to it.
